KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Valley Authority will conduct its annual sport fish survey, beginning this week.
Survey crews in boats electrically stun fish and note the types, weights and lengths of those that float to the surface. TVA biologists say the fish soon recover and aren't harmed.
The survey begins on Wilson Reservoir, near Muscle Shoals, Ala. It continues until May 17 and concludes at Great Falls near McMinnville, Tenn.
Biologists review the results and record information about abundance, distribution, age, relative weight and general health of the fish. TVA then shares the surveys with state agencies to protect and improve sport fishing.
TVA invites people to ride in the boats with them or to follow in their own craft. To schedule space in a TVA boat, people should call (800) 882-5263.
