PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Someone looking to cash in on the next big million dollar industry could look at tattoo removal.
1 in 5 Americans have a tattoo and the average price is $150. To remove that same tattoo it could cost you nearly $1000.
Mike Powell says she's been tattooing in the Smoky Mountains for more than 20 years. Now at his new shop in Pigeon Forge, Forged Tattoo, he's getting more questions from people who want them gone.
"Removal, a lot of people actually want them gone. And a lot of people don't understand the actual process," said Powell. "Very permanent it's a lifetime decision. You are going to wake up with it tomorrow."
Powell says he's considered adding removal as an option at his shop. For now he says he works with customers on how to recreate their original designs.
"If you have to rework a lot of lines, a lot of times it's a lot easier to start from scratch to reline it, do your shade work, do your color and end up with a brand new tattoo. You can always add to it, but you can't take away from it.," said Powell.
More widowed people get tatttoos than married or single folks. The average age for that first tattoo is in your 20's.
