The latest unemployment rate in Tennessee shows more than 7% of the state is unemployed, but an upcoming job fair could lower that rate.
With more than 1,000 new jobs! The best part is some of the jobs start soon, and some by the end of the year.
That's 1,000 more jobs coming to Sevier County and with 3 job fairs, it's a great opportunity for people in need of employment.
It may not look like much now, but it will soon be the newest place to visit in Sevier County.
It's the Belle Island Village, and yes, it will actually be an island, soon surrounded by water.
Glen Bilbo, the developer, says "We have 5 sections of Belle Island, 92 stores, we have restaurants, a hotel that's going to be very special."
The 26 acre themed resort will include all types of entertainment for all ages.
Glen says "We have 2 main stages that will need live performers."
But inside these, now empty, buildings will not only be fun, but an opportunity. An opportunity for employment, for more than 1,000 people.
Glen says "Some of those positions will be almost immediate. They'll be needing them to stock their stores and put shelving in and do all the things they're needing there."
Glen Bilbo hopes to open around the first of 2009, so most of the new employees will start by the end of the year.
Something locals greatly appreciate. Charlotte Bise says "People are really hurting now so I'm sure it will be very welcomed. Sevier County is a wonderful opportunity. It's a great place."
And Glen expects the attractions to not only be a great place to visit, but a fun place to work. He says "In our Debbie Reynolds Hollywood Museum we have hostesses and tickets and custodial help. The Darryl Waltrip Racing Experience has needs for people throughout the venue so they can walk people through and tell them about the history."
