JELLICO, Tenn. (WVLT)- Jellico city leaders have voted to change how close to a church or school beer can be sold.
Monday night, the city's Mayor, Les Stiers, broke a tie vote by city council members.
That move decreases the buffer zone, established in 1968, from two thousand feet to three hundred.
Last week, the pastor of one church directly impacted by the move, Crouches Creek Baptist Church, told Local 8 News that he was strongly opposed to the change. Mike Sutton says beers sales at a Rocky Top Market, across the street from his church, would have a negative impact on children going to the neighboring high school.
The city's beer board will determine when the change goes into effect.
