(LMS) -- CONCORD, N.C. (March 29, 2009) - Dirt late model racing legend Mike Balzano became the eighth person to be inducted into the Walk of Fame at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway prior to today's Circle K Colossal 100.
The Parkersburg, W.Va., native, who officially retired from dirt late model competition last year, joined fellow dirt legends Glenn Donnelly, Will Davis, Mike Duvall, Freddy Smith, Barefoot, Sammy Swindell and Steve Kinser in The Dirt Track's Walk of Fame.
"I've always enjoyed racing at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway," said Balzano. "The track is well maintained and it's one of the best facilities I've ever raced at. It's an honor to be inducted into the Walk of Fame here."
Balzano, a two-time STARS Champion (1989 and 1990) and 2005 Mid-Atlantic Championship Series Champion, competed in the dirt late model ranks for more than 20 years. In addition to the STARS and Mid-Atlantic Championship Series, he also raced in the Renegade DirtCar Racing Series and World of Outlaws Late Model Series.
Between the STARS and Renegade DirtCar Racing Series, he entered and qualified for 560 consecutive events from 1985 to 2003 and made 31 trips to Victory Lane.
In 2004, he made his mark at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway by scoring a win in O'Reilly Southern All Star Late Models competition.
"Mike Balzano is one of the great dirt racing legends," said Seamus Curley, short-track racing manager at Lowe's Motor Speedway. "His resume speaks for itself. He's been successful in a number of dirt late model series and he's joined us in Victory Lane here at The Dirt Track as well."
The Dirt Track returns to action during Coca-Cola 600 week with the World of Outlaws Showdown featuring the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Friday night, May 22. Tickets can be purchased by calling Lowe's Motor Speedway's ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS or online at www.lowesmotorspeedway.com.
