Thunder Valley Cornhole Classic set for August 21st & 22nd at BMS

(BMS) -- If you have ever cruised through a campground or parking lot at any sporting event it is likely you have seen it: folks having a great time, tossing a small bag at a hole in a platform several feet away.

The Cornhole craze has taken hold in a big way and now is coming to Bristol Motor Speedway in the Thunder Valley Cornhole Classic. During August race weekend, Aug. 21-22, fans will be able to take part in the Classic, which will include four separate tournaments, as BMS looks to crown the very first Bristol Cornhole Champion.

Former NASCAR Sprint Cup driver and current SPEED television personality Jimmy Spencer will serve as Grand Marshal for the tournament and will make an appearance during Saturday’s competition.

Participants in the Cornhole Classic will be playing for some amazing prizes, including a $1,000, BMS season suite tickets for 2010, and a free camping space for the 2010 BMS season that will go to the grand champion team. The winning team also will have their names announced during pre-race on Aug. 22 before the Sharpie 500.

Prizes also will be awarded for each tournament winner. First prize is $300 and 2010 season tickets, second prize is $200 and 2010 Food City 500 tickets, third prize is two NASCAR Cornhole tournament sets and trophies will be awarded for fourth prize. Everyone entered in the tournament will receive a t-shirt and goody bag.

The tournament will be held at BMS in the display area, between the Speedway and Bristol Dragway, and will begin Aug. 21. Tournament times are 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 21 and Aug. 22 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.-5 p.m. The championship will take place Aug. 22 between the top two teams from each tournament beginning at 5:15 Aug. 22.

Cost to enter the tournament is $40 per team. All proceeds from the Cornhole Classic will benefit the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities.
