Trevor Bayne celebrates after becoming the youngest driver in history to win the Daytona 500.
Knoxville (WVLT-TV), People are still congratulating Knoxville's Trevor Bayne, who in his first try, won the Super Bowl of nascar racing back
on February 20th.
The daytona 500 champ continues to impress, with a couple of good
outings last week in Las Vegas. He returns to his home track of
Bristol next week.
As impressed as anyone with the youngster is Knoxville resident and ESPN racing analyst, Doctor Jerry Punch; "...sports in general needed an all american youngster to cheer for and what better individual to come along than Trevor Bayne, here's a young man who comes in the sport at the elite level and decides he wants to have prayer groups with the drivers and at the end of the race, he was willing to sacrifice to let some of the other veterans win and they said no, Bobby Labonte said you're here let's see if we can push you to victory."
"...when he drove the first race at Texas last Fall, it was his first time in a cup car and he had a couple issues and got blocked in. He had a car that could have finished in the top ten. When he climbed out of that car all the big names like Jimmy Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. were saying this kid's a natural and he's a gifted driver with a bright future."
