Trevor Bayne celebrates after becoming the youngest driver in history to win the Daytona 500.
Phoenix, AZ (WVLT-TV), A whirlwind week for Daytona 500 champion Trevor Bayne continued Friday afternoon with the Knoxville native crashing his #21 Wood Brothers Ford at the Phoenix Int'l Raceway. It was Bayne first return to the track since winning the Great American Race last Sunday. Trevor, who was taking practice laps for Sunday's Sprint Cup race slammed the right side of his vehicle into the padded wall at Phoenix. He was not hurt all. Afterwords, he said there were problems with the brakes and that the car wasn't slowing down all the way. Bayne told the Speedchannel reporter that the brake pressure didn't feel right at all. He also said the team has a good back up car, but later on camera's showed his pit crew sliding a new engine into the #21 Ford.
Bayne is scheduled to race in both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup races this weekend. Qualifying for both races is set for Saturday afternoon.
