MILWAUKEE (AP) -- "American Idol" finalist Danny Gokey is going country.
19 Recordings/RCA Records Nashville announced Wednesday Gokey has signed a recording contract with them.
In a news release, the 29-year-old former church music director said the country songs he performed during last season's "American Idol" helped him realize that country is where he belongs.
Gokey, originally from Milwaukee, is on the American Idols Live! Tour 2009. He performed in Milwaukee Aug. 28 and he's in Madison on Friday. The tour ends Sept. 15.
The recording company says Gokey will soon start work on his album, which will be released next year.
Gokey finished in the final three on the popular singing show.
