MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Actress Florence Roach of the movie "The Help" is among those being honored in August for her contributions to theater in the Memphis area.
Roach, who plays a maid in the film, will be recognized during the Women's Theatre Festival Aug. 2-4. The festival is designed to give more exposure to women in the arts. Organizers say such an event has never been held in the Memphis region.
The festival will showcase the talents of women playwrights, directors and producers in more than 20 performances, workshops and readings at The Circuit Playhouse, Playhouse on the Square and TheatreWorks in the Midtown Memphis Theatre District.
It is sponsored by Women of Style, Spirit and Success Inc., a nonprofit charity.
