Sgt. Lowell Russell discharged from UT Medical Center

American Idol finalist and country music star Bucky Covington is on his way to Madisonville to play a benefit concert for Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Lowell Russell.

MADISONVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Trooper Russell is going to an undisclosed inpatient rehabilitation center.

He was injured in an accident when a tractor trailer driver fell asleep and hit Troooper Russell's cruiser.

Since then the family has been on a roller coaster ride.

Trooper Russell has undergone numberous surgeries, been on a feeding tube and had a halo to stabalize his head and spine.

He is sore from the broken bones; 8 ribs and the base of his skull.

He is in high spirits because he can leave the hospital.

And so is his family.

Also, American Idol finalist and country music star Bucky Covington is on his way to Madisonville to play a benefit concert for Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Lowell Russell.

The show, which was put together by "Help the Good Guys", is set for Sunday, April 15 at 2:00 p.m.

Tickets are ten dollars and are available at all branches of Peoples Bank of East Tennessee, Mason's Furniture and Appliances, The Monroe County Buzz office, Monroe County Sheriff's Department, Madisonville Police Department, Loudon County Sheriff's Department.
