KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Director Emeritus of the Columbus Ohio Zoo is a Knoxville native.
Jack Hanna was born in Knoxville, and told folks at UT Monday night he was born in Fort Sanders Hospital.
Hanna also brought his passion for animals to the UT campus. From penguins to snakes, even a sloth.
Hanna told us, "I started my career in Knoxville at the Knoxville Animal Clinic cleaning cages then went to the Knoxville Zoo, when I was 16, and said I wanted to be a zoo keeper, never wavered from that
dream. The Knoxville Zoo and the schools here gave me an opportunity to live a dream."
Jack also talked about his love of the mountains and the many hikes to Mount LeConte over the years.
