KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/AP) -- Country star Rodney Atkins won't be prosecuted for domestic assault.
A Tennessee judge has retired the misdemeanor domestic assault charge against him.
Atkins' wife, Tammy Jo Atkins, told police he attacked her and tried to suffocate her with a pillow last November.
Attorney Rose Palermo says Atkins passed court-ordered anger management, drug and alcohol evaluations and has agreed to do 30 hours of community service. A judge said he would remove the charges if Atkins stays out of trouble for the next year. He did not admit any guilt.
Atkins filed for divorce last December.
The Knoxville native and Powell Valley High School grad was the Grand Marshall in Volunteer TV's Coverage of the WIVK/Fowlers Christmas Parade in December.
