JEFFERSON CO., Tenn. (WVLT) -- One person was killed early Friday morning after being struck by a semi on I-40 Westbound in Jefferson Co., according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Two lanes of traffic were closed at Mile Marker 411, near the Deep Springs Road - Douglas Dam exit, while reconstruction teams tried to determine what happened. TDOT officials said the scene was clear around 11:30 a.m.
Authorities believe the pedestrian was a man and had been the driver of the car. No one else was with him at the time.Officials haven't determined why the car, which had New Jersey tags, had stopped.
The driver of the semi is okay and has been cooperating with the investigation, authorities said.
