2014 Knoxville convention called a milestone

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A spokesman for the 2014 Medal of Honor Convention in Knoxville says it will be a milestone for the city.

The convention Oct. 1-4, 2014, is expected to draw thousands with an estimated economic impact exceeding $2 million for the region.

The gathering will include public and private activities for Medal of Honor recipients, culminating with a Patriot Gala at the Knoxville Convention Center.

The host committee is currently obtaining sponsorships and planning the scale of events.

The Medal of Honor, commonly known as the Congressional Medal of Honor, is the highest military decoration given by the U.S. government. It is bestowed by the president. There are some 80 living recipients.
