Knoxville (AP) -- Tennessee's tourism web site keeps showing up in the top ten on the search engine Google's popularity list. That's quite a feat, considering more than 200 million sites are checked by Google.
State Tourism Commissioner Susan Whitaker told the Knoxville Chapter of the American Marketing Association Wednesday the internet is an important marketing tool.
What's been driving a lot of visits to www.tnvacation.com is the digitally enhanced travel ad featuring Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton.
While the ad has aired on a lot of TV stations, the state web site is the only place on the internet licensed to play the ad.
Whitaker says "hits" to the web site have increased 70% over the previous year.
The state has shifted about a million dollars from other areas to beef up internet marketing.
