Grand Ole Opry member Hank Locklin dies in Alabama

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Country singer and Grand Ole Opry member Hank Locklin has died. He was 91.

Locklin died Sunday at his home in Brewton, Ala., according to Opry publicist Jessie Schmidt.

Locklin's smooth tenor voice made hits of "Send Me the Pillow You Dream On" and "Please Help Me I'm Falling."

He recently released an album, "By the Grace of God," which was his 65th album.

He was a longtime Opry member, joining the country music broadcast in 1960.

Schmidt said Locklin's family is planning a private service and burial.

I have had a classic country radio show for 15 years and got to see Hank/danny Davis way back in 1970. His Generations in Song CD recorded when he was 80 was unreal. His voice was as wonderful as always. He seemd like a good and decent man and will be missed!

I was so thrilled to meet Hank while in Brewton, Alabam about 10 years ago. My husband and I were invited to his home for dessert and coffee and met his beautiful wife, saw all his gold and platinum records mounted on the walls. I sat at his keyboard and played "Danny Boy" while Hank sang. What a fabulous memory to have. I will miss him and his music. He truly was a gentleman. Sing with the angels, Hank!

hank was always one of my favourite singers ever since i seen him here in belfast in 1963. i was very fortunate to meet him personally on a few occassions but the highlight was in 1975 when i was hanks guest backstage at the opry. he was very kind and attentative with me and indeed introduced me to the late hank snow. this was a night i will always remember, hank you will be sadly missed throughout the world but especially here in ireland where you were so popular, my personal condolances to his family. we will never forget you. david ingram. belfast
