KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Knox County Commission Chairman Thomas "Tank" Strickland announced Thursday that he has found a kidney donor after waiting more than a year.

Thursday was World Kidney Day, and Strickland made the announcement at a National Kidney Foundation news conference about the foundation's offer of free kidney screenings to East Tennesseans.

Strickland was in dialysis when he got the call, and says he's "very happy" about the news.

His surgery will likely happen in a couple of weeks, followed by a week of hospitalization and four weeks recovery.
