Chattanooga (AP) -- The last of the Tennessee National Guard troops patrolling the Mexican border will return by Saturday, guard spokesman Randy Harris said.
Nearly 600 soldiers have participated in Operation Jump Start, President Bush's initiative to help stop illegal immigration.
106 soldiers remain in Arizona on voluntary extended deployments.
Tennessee troops helped round up 40 to 50 illegal immigrants. They helped border patrol agents locate people trying to cross the border but were not allowed to make arrests.
About another 1,000 Tennessee Guard soldiers likely will be sent to the border between January and July 2007.
