Knoxville (WVLT) - A man shot by a Knoxville Police officer early Monday morning during a police chase has died.
KPD confirms that 23-year-old Endia Puckett has died.
Puckett had been in critical condition since the Monday shooting.
KPD says Sergeant Gordon Gwathney shot Puckett as Puckett tried to run him down near I-275 and Heiskell Road.
Puckett crashed a stolen car shortly after he was shot.
Police believe Puckett assaulted a motorist during a carjacking a few blocks away, prompting the chase.
A KPD internal investigation into the shooting continues, Sergeant Gwathney and three other officers remain on administrative leave pending the outcome. That's normal in police-involved shooting incidents.
