Bike Ride To Improve Lonsdale

Today was the sixth annual neighborhood bike ride took place with a focus on positive changes throughout communities like Lonsdale.

"Starting at Market Square, going through Mechanicsville, Lonsdale, Oakwood Lincoln Park," said James.

About 300 bikers pedaled eleven miles through neighborhoods like Lonsdale.

"This was an opportunity for me to see a part of town I've not been in before."

Outsiders like Melissa Brenneman caught a glimpse of the good changes in the Lonsdale community.

"It just looks taken care of, looks like people care about their neighborhood. Everybody's been really friendly to us."

"It's been a drastic change," said Allen.

And that's the goal for the group, "Lonsdale United for Change".

"People are basically revamping these houses, bringing them back to what they were in the 40's and 50's. When most of the houses were built," said Allen.

Riders say the reconstruction is definitely recognizable.

"I like the places where they have the older houses."

"It's had great history and has a new great rebirth," said Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam.

The Lonsdale community is still in the process of re-vamping...

"We have an eighteen and a half million dollar project going on at Lonsdale homes. We have an upcoming $34 million project going on at the Coster Shop Bridge," said Allen.

Residents say the extra money and hard work is all worth it.

"It is really a special part of Knoxville because we have so many different races, religions, creeds," Allen.

Unfortunately, many Knoxvillians never even see unique neighborhoods like Lonsdale...

"A lot of people, when they move into town, the realtors booth them to West Knoxville and there's so much that's rich in these neighborhoods," said Tina.
