Clinton, Anderson County (WVLT) - A big piece of one East Tennessee town's history is about to get a big makeover.
The grandson of the man who built the historic Daugherty Furniture and Hardware Building in Downtown Clinton early in the 20th century is giving it a new 21st century feel, while working to return it to what it looked like when his grandfather built it.
The bottom floor will become home to new retail shops, while the third floor will become a restaurant and lounge.
There are also plans for apartments and a rooftop deck.
It's a big project that Bobby Daugherty says may require some heavy duty equipment.
"You can't just come in and tear the town up. That's all there is to it, it's too big a building. So we'll be doing it in sections," Daugherty says.
Daugherty, who showed off the renovations so far to Downtown Merchants Thursday, says it may take as long as three years to get everything done.
