The lower prices are affecting car sales. In the last few months, many of you have shied away from the larger cars because they used so much gas.
But as Volunteer TV's Allison Hunt tells us, thanks to the drop in gas prices and better fuel efficiency, larger sized vehicles are back in demand.
After hearing time and again that larger cars like SUV's guzzle gas, manufacturers are making them more gas friendly.
"The factory is stepping up the miles per gallon on those vehicles, making the differences and making them more popular again," Chris Pass from Rice Chrysler Dodge said.
Sales manager Chris Pass says SUV sales have picked back up, and full-sized vehicles like the 2007 Chrysler Aspen are actually made to increase fuel economy.
"All the manufacturers now realize that we're going to have to go to more environmentally friendly and better fuel economy so we're not so dependent on oil," Pass said.
Teri Travis traded in her Jeep for a 2006 Chrysler 300, but she's says it's the look of the car that helped her make her decision.
"It's a little better gas mileage than my jeep, so we got a car that looks good and gets good gas mileage," said Teri Travis who just bought a Jeep.
But you don't necessarily need to buy a smaller car anymore to save on gas. Pass says smaller car manufacturers are actually building bigger vehicles now.
"They're trying to build a bigger car and also your full-sized vehicles are building smaller cars. You're going to see a mid-sized vehicle line is pretty much standard as time goes on," Pass said.
Pass also says as we move into 2007, it's a great time to start looking at the 2006 models that are still in stock, and the dip in gas prices is helping.
"As the economy continues to improve, and consumer confidence raises, gas prices have softened and that's gonna make a lot better decision for everybody for the fall as far as the economy," Pass said.
Full-sized vehicles are now getting between 23 and 25 miles per gallon depending on whether or not the car is two or four wheel drive and on how big the engine is.
