New York (AP) -- Faith Hill says she was just joking.
During Monday night's Country Music Association Awards, TV cameras showed the five finalists for Female Vocalist of the Year on a split screen at the same time.
When Carrie Underwood was announced as the winner, Sara Evans, Gretchen Wilson and Martina McBride smiled graciously. Hill screamed "WHAT?" and appeared to storm off.
Some viewers thought it was serious, but Hill says it would be unimaginable for her to be disrespectful of a fellow musician.
Her manager Gary Borman says Hill was being "playful" and says the singer would never insult another artist.
