Fire Captain Suspended After Accused of Solicitation of a Minor

KNOXVILLE, TENN. (AP) -- A Knoxville area fire department captain accused of soliciting sex from a 15 year old girl has been suspended.

Authorities say Jeffrey Lynn Phillips made plans to rendezvous with the girl at a convenience store in Murfreesboro on Thursday but was met there instead by an undercover Tennessee Bureau Investigation Agent and Rutherford County authorities.

The Oliver Springs City Manager said the 40 year old Phillips was suspended indefinitely after his arrest.

Phillips is charged with 22 counts of solicitation of a minor and one count each of statutory rape and especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor.

He's being held in the Rutherford County Jail.
