Los Angeles (AP) -- Film Director Robert Altman has died at age 81.
Altman was the caustic and irreverent satirist behind "MASH," "Nashville" and "The Player." he made a career out of bucking Hollywood management and story conventions.
A producer at his production company says Altman died last night at a hospital in Los Angeles. The cause of death wasn't disclosed.
