Knoxville (WVLT) - One of the most exciting events of Christmas in the City is the Celebration of Lights.
People started gathering around the tree on Market Square, they're set to light the tree.
When the 38 foot tree is lit, fake snow falls from the rooftops and fireworks burst in the sky above the square. The whole scene is very festive.
Holiday wreaths and lights line the trees as the switch is flipped, illuminating the historic square to the cheers of the delighted crowd.
There's plenty to do besides admire the lights on Market Square. For the second year the outdoor ice skating rink, Holiday on Ice as it's been dubbed, is filled with gleeful skaters young and old zipping around on the ice.
Food and shopping will keep your stomachs and stockings full and certainly put you into the holiday spirit.
"I think its good, it brings people back to the city where they can come walk around and go shopping, have dinner, its nice to see the city alive with people," says Tim Boulos.
