Loudon County, Tennessee (WVLT) It took some emergency, temporary repairs, but all lanes of traffic on I-40 westbound in Loudon County are open tonight.
TDOT crews installed temporary supports under the damaged portion of the bridge earlier today.
Due to the size of the supports, one lane of U.S. 321 is closed in both directions.
Interstate 40 at the U.S. 321 overpass had been reduced to one lane since Tuesday morning.
A garbage truck with it's lifter up hit the top of the bridge causing substantial damage, and scattering huge chunks of concrete everywhere.
TDOT says an emergency repair contract will be awarded for permanent repairs.
TDOT hopes to begin work as soon as possible, though no date has been set.
I-40 Westbound will once again be reduced to one lane when the permanent repair project gets underway.
