Gatlinburg, Sevier County (WVLT) - The cold weather should give at least one area business a big boost.
The slopes at Ober Gatlinburg are open.
Judging by the thermometer it's 21 degrees and the people here say that's good skiing weather.
Ober Gatlinburg opened up Friday, with just over a foot deep base of snow. Although Mother Nature is not helping, snow machines are taking advantage of the frigid nights, as skiers hit the slopes here Friday.
"Everybody's really fired up and it was actually very nice to see all the kids ready in front of the gate and started to run at 12 o'clock to be the first one on the list and ski down," Thomas Diriwaechter, Director Of Snow Sports.
Now this is just pre season where they'll be open daily between noon and ten p.m.
This Sunday will be a shorter day from 10 am to 4 pm.
Of course there will be expanded hours after the 14th for the holiday.
