Knoxville (WVLT) - Fun, sun & Florida beaches are now just about an hour and a half away by plane!
The low-fare carrier, Allegiant Air began service in Knoxville Wednesday morning when their first jet took off, direct, for St. Petersburg International Airport.
In February of next year, allegiant will also serve Orlando and Las Vegas direct.
The best part, the fares are priced for a family on a budget.
"I have a family of six. I have lots of kids. The difference in flying and driving is definitely the low fares. We couldn't do it otherwise and being in the car with six people is not much fun," says Danni Varlan, from East Tennesseans for Airfare Competition.
Volunteer TV's Stephen McLamb was on board Allegiant Air's first flight.
He's hard at work looking for some "can't miss" places you'll want to visit in the area, especially if you're following the voles on Bowl Week.
His reports begin Christmas Day at 5:30 on Volunteer TV News.
