Knoxville (WVLT) -The Hall Of Fame Drive extension is open to traffic, just in time when another construction project is about to begin.
The new extension will make it easier for drivers to get into Downtown Knoxville from the east.
It also gives drivers a direct shot from Summit Hill Drive to Broadway in North Knoxville with a new intersection to Magnolia Avenue.
The connector will also provide access for drivers who usually take James White Parkway.
The parkway will shut down on Sunday as part of TDOT's next phase of SmartFix40.
"Motorists coming in from East Knoxville that want to go Downtown will be exiting to Hall of Fame Drive. Taking it down to Summit Hill and entering in to the Downtown Knoxville Area," says Project Manager John Hunter.
TDOT held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning at the Hall Of Fame Drive and Summit Hill intersection.
