Baghdad, Iraq (AP) -- America's death toll in Iraq is climbing. The US military says Friday three troops have been killed.
Officials say two Marines died Thursday fighting the enemy in Anbar province, which is a stronghold for the insurgency. And in another province to the northwest, a soldier was killed in combat Tuesday. Two others were wounded.
That brings the number of American deaths this month to 54. It puts December on track to be one of the deadliest months of the war.
Also, a pair of suicide car bombers blew themselves up at US checkpoints in Anbar. Iraqi police say the Americans opened fire, killing four civilians and wounding three.
Also Friday, drive-by shooting ended the life of a Shiite tribal sheik.
