Conway, Ark. (AP) -- William Cole, a foreign correspondent for CBS News and the network's Moscow Bureau Chief during the 1960s, has died. He was 84.
His daughter, Tatine Darker, said Cole died Monday in Humboldt, Tennessee.
Cole grew up in Conway, Arkansas and returned to the state after he retired, but illness led him to move to Tennessee to be near his daughter.
Darker said Cole was expelled from the Soviet Union for conducting clandestine interviews with Russian intellectual dissidents.
He was the subject of a CBS special, "Voices From The Russian Underground," that aired in July 1970.
A private memorial for Cole was Thursday in Humboldt.
