Knoxville (WVLT) - Your rights as a voter were the focus of part of today's Knox County Commission meeting.

Questions surrounding the validity of an annexation of a development located on Chapman Highway into the City of Knoxville spark a huge debate at Monday's County Commission meeting.

Through an 11 to 8 vote commissioners decided to ask the Tennessee State Attorney General to investigate whether or not the voting process was legal, the controversy surrounds one man's vote.

The only man to vote on the annex.

Some argue the voter moved to the area for the sole purpose of voting for the annexation. The election challenge has been dismissed but now commissioners along with the election commission's attorney are questioning or not whether he is a qualified voter.

Commissioners battled back and forth raising questions about the situation and the City and County Urban Growth Agreement.

Also at Monday's commission meeting, more controversy about the Midway Business Park in east Knox County. The development corporation asked commission to appropriate $7,000 for that project. Those against the business park have filed a lawsuit asking a judge to overturn the rezoning. They say it's inappropriate to fund a project in litigation.

The commission voted in favor of the development corporation's request.
