White House (AP) -- The White House says First Lady Laura Bush had a skin cancer tumor removed from her right shin in early November.
The cancer was identified as a squamous cell carcinoma, a malignant tumor that is the second most common form of skin cancer.
A spokeswoman for Mrs. Bush says the procedure is only being disclosed now because the First Lady considers the medical procedure "a private matter."
The First Lady was observed wearing a bandage on her right leg before the election. At the time her press secretary said Mrs. Bush had a sore on her shin.
