Yesterday, Thomas Phelan was sitting in the back of a limousine, heading for Atlanta.
Today, he's in jail facing a federal indictment.
The Assistant US Attorney's office in Knoxville says 50 year old Thomas Phelan of Austintown, Ohio, has been indicted on bank robbery charges in connection with the robbery of the Tennessee Members 1st Credit Union on Monday.
He appeared in court Tuesday afternoon in front of U.S. Magistrate C. Clifford Shirley, Jr.
Shirley ordered Phelan detained until his trial for the Knoxville bank robbery on February 20th.
The FBI says Phelan was making his getaway Monday when an off-duty Knoxville Police officer spotted him in line at a convenience store, and followed him.
KPD says Phelan got into a limousine, and the officer followed.
Phelan was taken into custody on I-75 in Loudon County.
Phelan also faces a bank robbery warrant out of Youngstown, Ohio, in connection with a robbery there on December 9th.
He's due in federal court for a hearing on that charge on January 4th.
