World War II Veteran Receives Medals

Nashville (AP) -- Emmett Faulkner of Lawrenceburg has received his received his military medals, six decades after helping liberate the Philippines during World War II.

Faulkner is 82 now. He was a young soldier with a new wife back in Tennessee when his four-year hitch ended in the mid-1940s and he was eager to get back home.

Ona Faulkner says there wasn't time for her husband to even think about medals.

One of Faulkner's daughters was looking through his medical records recently and found a reference to them. She went to Congressman Jim Cooper's office to get them awarded.

In a ceremony Thursday, Faulkner received five medals, including the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with a Bronze Star and Arrowhead.

Faulkner says having the medals lets him show his children and grandchildren what he did in the war.
