Chattanooga (AP) -- Drivers who haven't bought their new auto licenses now stick out like a sore thumb.
As of January first, all the old sunburst car tags are out of date.
Highway Patrol Spokesman Mike Browning says police usually have to look at the small sticker in a corner of the plate to see if it's out of date, that isn't true when the plate design changes.
All current plates now feature the rolling hill design, not the sun rising over the distinctive shape of the state that was shown on the old tags.
The state typically changes plates every five years, updating them with stickers each year.
