Knoxville (WVLT) – It has been an eventful day for investigators looking into the murder of one man and the disappearance of his girlfriend.
Around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, police announced the discovery of a second body.
Police say they found the body of a white female Tuesday afternoon in a rental house at 2316 Chipman Street.
The house is only blocks away from the spot investigators found 23-year-old Christopher Newsom's body two days ago.
Since then, Knoxville Police, Knox County Sheriff's Department have been working overtime to find his girlfriend, 21-year-old Channon Christian.
Police aren't saying whether or not the body they found Tuesday is Christian, but they did find her car in this area Monday.
Now, with two murder investigations on their hands, police are trying to see if they are connected.
"Right now, we're going to go back to the forensics center and determine who this body is," explains Knoxville Police Sergeant Tim Snoderly.
"I just hope they find that girl. I've even been looking myself in this area. I look and drive around, you know. And I look myself, because I can't imagine her parents, what they're going through," says Michelle Dixon, who lives near the home where the body was found.
Family and friends gathered at the Cherry Street Command Center all day to support and comfort each other through this tough time.
Family members of Channon Christian are waiting right now for more news
Twenty-three-year-old Chris Newsom and 21-year-old Channon Christian had been dating for several months and had gone out to eat and see movies on Saturday, but they never came home.
Police haven't released the identity of the body, but we are learning more about this neighborhood, and in particular, the home where the body was found.
Neighbors say this street is known to be busy and the house at 2316 Chipman Street is known for violence.
At 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Knoxville police officers and Knox County Sheriff's deputies found a female's body in the home.
Neighbors say it's a rental and as of last week it was occupied.
The news of a body being found there isn't surprising to Carl Hunley, the next door neighbor.
"They had two different shootings over there. One late at night. And the other the police came out. It was a drive-by shooting. He was shooting back at the car, and the car was shooting back at him," Carl Hunley.
Remember, police have not identified the body or connected it to the finding of Newsom's body.
They're waiting on tests from the forensics lab to make a positive identification.
Police are still on scene looking through the house.
