Pigeon Forge HS coach, former Vol arrested on sexual exploitation charges

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- New details on the arrest of former UT football player Josh Briscoe.

Briscoe's charged with sending a sexually suggestive text message to a male student last week.

At the time he was an assistant coach at Pigeon Forge High.

22-year-old Joshua Briscoe's out of jail on bond, charged with sexual exploitation of a minor by an authority figure.

It was his dream to go into coaching after his career at UT.

He got that chance at Pigeon Forge High School.

But now, his career may be in jeopardy before it even gets started.
After a career at wide receiver as a UT Vol, Josh Brisco's dream of a career coach was just getting started.

He got his chance at Pigeon Forge High School.

"It's something I've always wanted to do is get into coaching and teaching and it's my career now," says Brisco.

But he won't be on the sidelines Friday night when they play Greenback.

Brisco is now charged with solicitation of a minor by an authority figure.

Police say he sent a sexually explicit email to a 15 year old student football player.

That has upset some parents.

"A coach doing that. It's not good. Not good at all," says Gretchen Knight.

"It's very very, wrong and it's very disgusting. I mean if that was my kid I would be over there in somebody's face," says Della Wilson.

According to the warrant, Brisco text the student saying "You owe me a little action for going off like that...." that was followed by a request for a sexual favor.

"Our kids are just being sent out there to people that are supposed to watch over them, teach them. It's crazy," says Wison.

"To build a winning tradition at Pigeon Forge is what we were really looking for and it's a total shock," says David Martin.

So now the team begins it's football season without one of its coaches who some looked to for to help in building a winning tradition.

"Yes, there may be a little confusion and some things going on but Coach Hammonds will right the ship and he'll get them ready to play Friday night," says Martin.

Attempts to reach Brisco were unsuccessful.

A condition of his release on bond, Briscoe must stay away from the victim in the case.

He will first appear before a General Sessions Court judge Sept. 21 at 9 a.m.

Wow, more jail yime than the other coach Wesley Teaster received after driving drunk under age and killing his passenger. He was convicted of Vehicular Homicide, never served any jail time, in fact, he is still coaching at PF High and has a valid drivers license. It pays to be the GRANDSON OF CITY MANAGER EARLENE TEASTER

From one who knows how easy it is for someone to be charged for a crime that never happened I pray for Briscoe, his family and PFHS. His life can be ruined by a false statement or someone setting him up. There's been a real witch hunt in Sevier County so people can get a name for themselves for the arrest. Corruption lurks behind a lot of politians and policemen in Sevier County. Beware.

I have known josh for years, and i am 100 percent behind him. He is a great person and i really believe that this is the result of a misunderstanding. If i had children i wouldnt hesitate to trust them with josh even now, i have known him far too long to buy into this until something is proven.

I knew Josh as a child and teen, and he has always been a fine, honorable person to my knowledge. I admired him even as a youngster and considered it a privilege to be his teacher. I believe he will weather this storm and regain his reputation. I hope and believe these charges are the result of some misunderstanding.

Can't believe this, Johnny. As he's now learned, it takes just a moment of stupidity to bring a life of ruin. I believe in innocent until proven guilty. But if you're found guilty, then you're clearly the scum of the earth, and should enjoy your stay at the friendly state prison...
