Knox Commission Rejects Special Election

Knoxville (WVLT) As expected, the Knox County Commission has rejected Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale's request for a special election to replace the eight selected commissioners and four selected countywide office holders.
The vote was 10-8, with one commissioner passing.
Mayor Ragsdale wanted the county commission to ask the state legislature to call a special election, even though Governor Phil Bredesen told Ragsdale that such an election was not possible.
Also today, the Knox County Commission tabled five nominations by Ragsdale to the newly formed Ethics Committee.
Commission agreed to consider the five at it's next meeting on Monday.
But, some members of commission also suggested expanding the Ethics Committee to nine members, and letting the commissioners from each district choose a person to serve on the committee.
