Naifeh: English-Only Driver's License Bill Is Publicity Stunt

Nashville (AP) -- Tennessee House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh says a bill sponsored by Senator Bill Ketron requiring English-only written driver's license exams in Tennessee is simply a publicity stunt.

Naifeh, of Covington, said he thinks all Ketron wants to do is get his name in the paper.

Ketron, of Murfreesboro, has said the bill would fight illegal immigration and protect the state's roads from drivers who couldn't understand road signs.

Ketron's bill passed the Senate Transportation Committee last week.

Tennessee currently gives its exams in three languages other than English: Korean, Spanish and Japanese.
