Nashville, Tenn. (AP) -- A rare document that a music equipment tech bought at a Nashville thrift store has sold at auction for $477,650.
Quite a return on an investment of $2.48.
What Michael Sparks bought from the Music City thrift shop turned out to be a rare "official" copy of the Declaration of Independence, commissioned in 1823. John Quincy Adams commissioned 200 of them when he was Secretary of State.
Sparks will get about $410,000, minus 12.5% commission to the auction house.
Sparks says his plans are modest, a used car, a sun room, help for his parents and contributions to charities.
