Knoxville Man Accused of Trying to Hit Officer

Knoxville (WVLT) - Knoxville Police arrest a 43-year-old man on several charges including aggravated assault.

Authorities say suspect Derrell Spivey pulled up to off-duty police officer Matthew Cook who was talking to a friend in a shopping center parking lot near Clinton Highway and Merchants Road.

Spivey allegedly yelled at Officer Cook and tried to hit him with the car.

Spivey left the scene and went to his home on Walfred Drive where police arrested him.

He faces charges of aggravated assault, DUI and not having a license.

Officers say they found empty beer cans in the car along with a cooler full of beer.
