Gatlinburg, Sevier County (WVLT) - There is extensive damage to part of a Gatlinburg motel, and one minor injury overnight at the Scottish Inn and Suites.
But the owners say it could cost half a million dollars to rebuild the damaged rooms.
Several rooms are gutted from the fire but the vacancy sign remains on.
The fire was contained to one building. Only twelve of the Scottish Inn and Suites rooms are closed. Six are completely destroyed, the other six have water and smoke damage.
The owner says the cause of the fire was electrical and started in the attic.
A guest woke up and smelled smoke, he went outside and saw it coming from the opposite building, he called 911 and everyone was evacuated.
Crews had the fire under control within two hours. No one was seriously injured but one person was treated for smoke inhalation.
"The smoke was so thick out here, you couldn't see, I had to put my shirt over my face in order to breathe, I mean, it was that bad,” says Ron Hembree, who called 911 to report the fire.
The owner tells us damages are close to a half-million dollars and it will take at least a month until they can start working on it.
They're still waiting to here from the insurance company in Nashville.
