Knox County Reading Fest

Knoxville (WVLT) Twenty-five years ago it was the site of the world's biggest celebration.

Today it was where hundreds of children flocked to celebrate literature.

The 2007 Children's Festival of Reading at World's Fair Park gave children from across East Tennessee the chance to have fun with books.

Sponsored by the Knox County Public Library, the third annual festival featured among other things a street parade of giant puppets.

"It's really to celebrate reading, said Mary Pom Claiborne of the Knox County Public Library system. "Everything here is about the book, the written word, the story."

The festival's featured author was Tomie DePaola, a noted writer and illustrator of children's books with more than 200 awards to his credit
