Tennessee Man Killed in Plane Crash in Kentucky

Somerset, KY – A plane crash has resulted in the death of a Tennessee man in Pulaski County, KY.

On Thursday at 6:17 PM the Pulaski County 911 Dispatch Center received a call of a plane crash just off Surber Road in Northern Pulaski County.

Responding emergency units found that a single engine Beachcraft Musketeer had crashed in a wooded area just east of Surber Road. There was no fire at the crash scene.

The plane’s only occupant was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office. The body was removed from the wreckage by the Coroner’s Office and members of the Somerset-Pulaski County Rescue Squad.

The victim’s body has been sent to the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The NTSB and the FAA have been notified of the crash and should arrive in Somerset sometime on Friday to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Any question as to the cause of the crash or the investigation into the crash should be directed to those agencies.

The crash scene will be guarded by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department until their arrival.

Assisting at the scene was the Science Hill Fire Department, Dabney Fire Department, Pulaski County Office of Public Safety, Kentucky DES, Kentucky Fire Marshall’s Office, Pulaski County Coroner’s Office and the Somerset-Pulaski County Rescue Squad.

    On thursday at around 6 while enroute from lexington to atlanta atc called and told us to monitor 121.5 (elt emergencey freq.) For activity in somerset 5 minutes later i called back and told them we were seeing smoke on our 11oclock and 5 miles we deviated left of course and circled over and told her we just saw some debris and smoke and continued on course. I wish i could see an ariel picture so i could verify what i saw was the wreckage. If anyone has one my email is jgoff0010@yahoo.com I could also give them a more in depth description of what exactly happend from our point of view.
