7th Annual Community Appreciation Day

Knoxville (WVLT) -- Knox County's new Sheriff is continuing a tradition his predecessor established six years ago.

Today was Community Appreciation Day in Concord Park

Sheriff J.J. Jones says today's event gives people the chance to meet the men and women who keep Knox County safe.

"Most of the situations when Officer's are dealing with the public, somebody's house has been broken into, they have had a wreck, or something bad has happen," said Sheriff Jones. "This is a good setting where everybody is in a friendly and fun setting."

One of the event's highlights was a mock air to water rescue team demonstration.

The event was capped off just after dark with a large fire works display.

I am a tax payer of Knox Co and Knox City. I attended the gathering at Concord Park Saturday as I do every year. I think it is a very good family & community event. I live in the city & have experience with KPD and they are TERRIBlLE/RUDE & CAN CARELESS ABOUT THE COMMUNITY/PUBLIC. I have great respect for Knox County Sheriff's employees/Office b/c atleast they try & respect the community and give back and teach our youth about Law Enforcement & the communtunity and making our communtiy a better place. Horray for KCSO and Boo to KPD.

Who is paying for this little vote getting gathering? Why are our detectives forced to work two - three jobs when they are suppose to be looking for murders. Are the people who attended this "little party" even aware that JJ says that there is a killer on the loose in West Knoxville. Who killed Johnia Berry by entering her home at 4 a.m. in the morning of Dec. 6, 2004 and why is the Sheriff not accepting help from America's Most Wanted or 48 Hrs. Mysteries. Did the killer of Johnia Berry attend this party?
