I-40 WB in Jefferson Co. reopens after fatal crash

DANDRIDGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- All westbound lanes of Interstate 40 in Jefferson County have been reopened after an early morning crash shut the roadway down.

The Newport Plain Talk reports the interstate closed around 2:40 a.m. near Mile Marker 423, because investigators believe the driver of a tractor trailer fell asleep and crashed into the Spring Creek Bridge.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed the driver of the truck was killed.
