Apartment Fire In South Knoxville

Knoxville (WVLT) - Several people are without a home today after an overnight fire destroyed several units in a housing complex.

Captain Darrell Whitaker of the Knoxville Fire Department says crews arrived to East Moody Avenue around 2 a.m. Thursday to find the complex engulfed in flames.

Captain Whitaker says residents inside were woken up by one of the apartment residents, after he woke up to find flames coming down from his ceiling.

Fire officials say everyone did manage to make it out, and that no one was hurt in the fire.

The Red Cross has stepped in to help residents.

Officials say the fire is still under investigation, and they are not saying whether or not it is suspicious.
